Mario Kart is a racing video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U console. It is the eleventh installment of the Mario Kart series, eighth on Nintendo consoles. It was released worldwide at the end of May 2014, with 1.2 million copies sold in its first four days, making it the fastest selling Wii U game to date. On June 26, 2014, Nintendo recorded sales of 2 million copies in the first month of release. In April 2017, an improved port for the Nintendo Switch, called Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, was launched worldwide, which in June 2019, with more than 17 million sales, had become the best-selling game in the system.
As in the other Mario Kart games, players control the characters in the Mario franchise and participate in go-kart races on various circuits, using a variety of objects to hamper opponents or gain advantages.
